Paul Gascoigne back in hospital
Paul Gascoigne is back in the headlines this morning.
The former Newcastle and England star was involved in an altercation at the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, London, on Tuesday night and ended up in hospital with a head injury.
Police confirmed that somebody had been taken to hospital but that as yet no arrest had been made, the former player’s spokesman Terry Baker confirmed to journalists that it was Paul Gascoigne who was involved and that he had a head injury, though he added that Gazza hadn’t been arrested and would be released from hospital shortly.
Various newspapers have quoted eyewitnesses who say his injury was caused by a fall down some stairs, with claims that it was a push/kick rather than accidental, after an earlier fracas with other hotel guests.
As always, fingers crossed that Gazza can put this one behind him and stay out of trouble.
The police statement:
“Police were called at 18:05hrs on Tuesday 27 December to reports of a disturbance at a hotel on Shoreditch High Street, E1.
“Officers were called a short time later to reports of a man assaulted at the same location.
“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended. A 49-year-old man was found suffering from a head injury.
“The man has been taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
“There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”
