Official Newcastle United Statement: Dummett and Shelvey win appeals!

Against the odds, Newcastle United duo Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett have won their appeals.

There was a lot of sympathy for NUFC after the disgraceful handling of the Nottingham Forest v Newcastle United match by Steve Martin.

However, when it came to the red cards awarded against the United players, it was widely felt that they had little chance with any appeal.

Late Tuesday afternoon and Newcastle United have formally confirmed that Shelvey and Dummett are clear to play on Saturday against Birmingham.

Earlier this afternoon, the names of the two players were taken down from The FA’s list of suspended players on the official website, the first sign that United fans could hope for favourable news.

Official Newcastle United Statement:

‘Both Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett have had their suspensions withdrawn with immediate effect after their wrongful dismissal claims were successful following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

The Newcastle United pair were dismissed for violent conduct and denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity respectively during the game against Nottingham Forest on 2nd December 2016.’

It also appears that Steve Martin has been punished, with no match awarded to him this coming weekend.
