What Nottingham Forest fans are saying ahead of Newcastle match

Fair to say Nottingham Forest fans appear to be looking forward to tonight’s match.

Consecutive away wins with seven goals scored over the course of those last two matches, have given the Championship strugglers real momentum.

Coinciding with two defeats on the bounce for Newcastle, it has given the home fans hope.

Nottingham Forest fans have actually seen almost as many goals as Newcastle supporters, scoring 32 compared to NUFC’s 36. However, they have also conceded 32 (Newcastle only 14), with rock bottom Rotherham the only team with a worse record.

Some interesting comments below: with Nottingham Forest fans convinced they will see goals but most not convinced their players will score a majority of them.

Other interesting remarks/subjects covered, are Nicklas Bendtner, Mackems and a certain pitch invasion…

On the other hand, equally interesting to see so little mention of former players Darlow and Lascelles.

Comments from Nottingham Forest fans via top Forest message boards Forest Forum and Forest Fans:

‘I think Newcastle will be too good for us. Sorry.’

‘So love to beat the Geordie cheats, then Derby, then Liverpool. That’s it.’

‘I don’t know about you guys, but we’re f***ing back. We could do this lot. I just hope we have a big crowd for this game, I want the city ground roaring again.’

‘Tuesday night saw a full strength Newcastle have to all the way to penalties before losing at Hull. Things going our way, it seems.

The team needs to guard against complacency, play high tempo, and be clinical in front of goal.’

‘Forest – Two back to back wins

Newcastle – Two back to back defeats.

I think we can take them at home, they’ll have another rude awakening if they think they can come to Nottingham and call the shots.’

‘If we are 3-1 down, we can just invade the pitch and get the game called off.’

‘Don’t know if anyone remembers a game with them in the mid eighties, it was the last game of the season if I remember right.

There was a pitch invasion at the end and a free for all with loads of fighting.

Oddly, Forest struck up a friendship with Newcastle in hooligan terms. I think Boatsy knew a few of their lot from England games.

Also, by all accounts, we weren’t exactly the victims that day in 1974. We took about 14,000 fans and gave as good as we got that day.

Nobody went up there back then and held their own. Forest did.

Different times now of course but in my ideal world they would have 5,000 tickets and we’d fill our end with a rocking atmosphere. It’s disappointing we are playing these during a low period at our club, otherwise it would be exactly that.’

‘I’d never really understood the friendship with Newcastle, and I’m assuming the dislike of Sunderland comes from that friendship?’

‘That, and that most Mackems are idiots.’

‘A lot of Nottinghamshire’s mining towns are made up of Geordies.’

’23,500 expected. Not sure who Monty will pick as his #9.’

‘Got to be Britt! Lascelles won’t be able to deal with his movement.’

‘When fit it should always be Britt regardless of how well everybody else plays.

His goal scoring ability is unquestionable. Best out and out goalscorer in the league.’

‘Despite the freak result against Blackburn, Newcastle by far and away the best team in the league and will have too much for us I am afraid. Forest 1 Newcastle 4.’

‘Newcastle will score goals against us but there’s reason to be optimistic that we’ll match them on that front. 2-2.’

‘I know we’ve started to seem a little settled, and I don’t really want to see us change that.

However, I would love to see how Newcastle’s defence would cope if we started with Britt & Bendtner. I don’t think they’d be expecting us to start with two up top at all, and I think that’d give us a real threat, and heavily occupy their back line and also give Shelvey more of a work out, to drop deep.

I guess the biggest issue is that we seriously lack width. Which Bendtner needs to be a big threat.’

‘Looking forward to this one. Should be a cracking atmosphere tonight. TTT to pull off a hard fought 3-2 win. Bendtner with the winner in the 84th minute.’

‘It’d be foolish to back anyone in this division against Newcastle.  I don’t think we’ll get hammered though.’

‘Let’s hope we win and shut all the Newcastle lovers up.’

‘I fancy us to put on a decent show against the Geordies. I’m not saying we’ll win, but we’ll have our moments.’

‘With our defence we are going to leak goals, I will go for 3-8!’

‘Only Newcastle (top of the league) have scored more goals, while Rotherham (bottom of the league) are the only team to have conceded more than us.

Sort the defence out and we should be able to move up the table. It’s a big ask though, on current viewing.’
