On Wednesday the club confirmed that the Newcastle v Nottingham Forest tickets had completely sold out for the match at St James Park in two weeks time.
However, in an unexpected bonus for Newcastle supporters who missed out, there are tickets now once again on sale on Thursday.
The reason is that Nottingham Forest have sent back an unspecified number of tickets, these tickets in the Leazes end now on sale online, by phone (0844 372 1892) and to personal callers to the ticket office at SJP.
This is all a little embarrassing for the Forest fans who in the war of words after the fiasco at the City Ground, were so keen to tell Newcastle supporters that they (Forest) were a massive club whereas NUFC’s trophies were too long ago to count as achievements.
The double European Cup winners were given only 2,315 tickets and so it remains to be seen just how embarrassingly small the Forest away contingent will be, after a sizeable number of those tickets were returned.
I must admit I did think when we were relegated that Nottingham Forest would be one of the ‘bigger’ clubs we faced but when the likes of Brentford are bringing twice as many supporters from twice as far away, their away support is laughable.
Yes it is a Friday night (30 December) but the vast majority of their supporters will be off work and even if they aren’t, it is just a couple of hours up the road by car.
Newcastle fans expressed disbelief when it was announced they had been given such a low allocation of 2,002 tickets for the game at Forest, the City Ground has a capacity of 30,445 (according to the official Forest website) and on average usually has around 10,000 empty seats, our match seeing ‘only’ the 9,128 empty.
