The results of the Newcastle v Nottingham Forest player ratings.
Newcastle fans enjoying the fact that another three points were banked but not exactly impressed with a strange performance – starting so brightly and then an opening goal after four minutes appearing to stop them in their tracks.
The second half saw another bright start and a red card and two goals from Dwight Gayle settled the outcome.
The striker was decent on the day but despite easily winning the top rating (7.6), it is still relatively low and points to the general (lack of) quality on the day from NUFC.
Only five other players managed 6.0 or better and the fact that three of them are from the back five tells you everything.
The ever reliable Karl Darlow (6.6) was second behind Gayle, sharing that honour with Matt Ritchie who improved on Monday’s display and scored the opener.
The excellent Ciaran Clark (6.4) was next up and Newcastle’s best defender as per the norm, whilst DeAndre Yedlin and Christian Atsu (both 6.1) were the only two others to creep above that 6.0 line.
As for the biggest disappointments, Ayoze Perez (3.8) was pretty shocking once again after getting his chance instead of Mohamed Diame.
Jack Colback (4.5) was easily rated second lowest of the starting eleven, with then the trio of Jamaal Lascelles (5.3), Paul Dummett (5.1) and Isaac Hayden (5.3) not rated much better.
Lazaar and Mitrovic were late subs but interesting to see Mohamed Diame (6.4) get a relatively decent mark for his 25 minutes on the pitch – he has previously looked sharper when introduced as a substitute rather than from the start.
