Newcastle v Birmingham player ratings results – 4 outstanding & no weak links
The results of the Newcastle v Birmingham player ratings.
A great return to form saw Rafa’s players get back on track with a committed and quality-laden display, that outclassed top six opposition.
So who did the fans rate as the top, and not so top, performers?
A case really of no weak links in the team, as the very lowest mark in the team is an impressive 7.3, which was awarded to Paul Dummett.
So every player scored well but four were especially picked out by supporters, all getting average marks of over 8.0.
Predictably, Dwight Gayle (9.1) was top of the tree, his second hat-trick of the season grabbing all the headlines.
Next best and arguably deserving of top spot, at least in my opinion, was the first proper glimpse of Mohamed Diame (8.6). A display that oozed quality and a total transformation from what we had seen previously.
Also rating top four were Jonjo Shelvey (8.4) and Ciaran Clark (8.1).
The midfielder looked like a man with something to prove after the fiasco at Forest, whilst Clark yet again dealt with everything in an effortless fashion. as always United’s best defender.
Isaac Hayden (7.9) maybe a little unfortunate not to be part of that top little grouping, his energy and running with the ball were excellent, particularly when laying on Dwight Gayle’s and Newcastle’s second goal.
Elsewhere on the pitch it was a similar story as wingers Matt Ritchie (7.5) and Yoan Gouffran (7.6) out in excellent shifts going up and down the pitch.
Meanwhile, in defence Vurnon Anita (7.9) and Jamaal Lascelles (7.4) did everything asked of them, whilst Karl Darlow (7.4) dealt well with the little he had to do.
More of the same at Wigan on Wednesday night would certainly see another three points for United.
Below are the ratings as voted by Newcastle fans up to 5.30pm on Sunday:
