Liverpool set to bid in January for Jamaal Lascelles – Reports
Liverpool are preparing to bid for Jamaal Lascelles when the January transfer window opens at the end of this month, according to reports this morning.
Liverpool have been watching the Newcastle Captain and the Shields Gazette state as fact that the Merseyside club were represented at St James Park on Saturday.
Whilst Jamaal Lascelles had minimal work to do in dealing with a feeble Birmingham display on the day, the defender has impressed with both his leadership and personal form.
Liverpool are the Premier League’s top scorers with 37 goals but only Watford in the top half of the table have conceded more than the scousers’ 20 goals in 15 matches.
The newspaper says that their information is that Liverpool will continue to watch Jamaal Lascelles in the rest of December’s games and then make a decision on whether to bid for the Newcastle defender – and if so, how much to offer.
You pay you money and take your chance with this transfer tale, just like any other, but hard to see Rafa Benitez agreeing to let any key player walk away next month – let alone his captain.
Already this season there were similar claims that Chelsea were watching Lascelles with a view to taking him to West London, with the Newcastle Captain stating at that time, he had no interest in leaving Newcastle.
How good Jamaal Lascelles actually is, will only be discovered if/when Newcastle are back in the Premier League. Regardless of that, his value for this vital season won’t see Rafa entertain any deal.
