Interesting comments from Sheffield Wednesday fans looking ahead to Newcastle visit

Fair to say Sheffield Wednesday fans are looking forward to Boxing Day.

Newcastle supporters are no different, with a game under the floodlights and everybody off work, a chance to disappear from the family festive celebrations.

Interesting when reading through the comments below – every view under the sun from an easy away win, right down to zero chance of anything.

The optimists amongst the Sheffield Wednesday fans see that three teams have already won at St James Park, plus of course a reminder that the last time they visited the Owls came away with a 1-0 win despite making 10 changes for the League Cup match.

The players they fear appear to be Gayle, Shelvey and Diame, with the Senegalese international coming into form in recent games.

A full house at St James Park with the visitors taking up the full 3,200 allocation, it could and should be a great night, with hopefully the right result.

Comments from Sheffield Wednesday fans ahead of Newcastle match via their top message board OwlsTalk:

‘Keep Diame and Gayle quiet and there’s every chance.

If either of those two slip the leash…then I fear no chance.’

‘Just to remind everyone that the last time we played the Magpies at St James Park we fielded a reserve team and won 1 0.

OK, they will be a different team on Boxing Day, but so will we – so more optimism please!’

‘To me this game will show what we are made of, playing a good footballing side should suit us, they will play a more open game than the mid/lower table championship battlers.

There’s a good chance that we should be free of injuries apart from maybe Hooper plus an on form Fessie could see us take home a point.’

‘I cannot see anything but a defeat against the media favourites, sadly.’

‘I think we are more suited to playing against better, more open opposition, such as Newcastle, rather than been dragged down by Rotherham’s more negative approach, so Boxing Day at St James, might work for us.

As other have said, we will need to take our chances. An early goal would be great to help unsettle 50,000 Geordies!’

‘They can have the attendances we’ll have the promotion.’

‘I’d love it, just flipping love it, if we can beat this lot.’

‘As long as we go up there and give it a good go, I’ll be happy.’

‘We’ve been scratching through against some poor and average teams…..we’ll get smacked by this lot.’

‘Really fancy us to win, it will be tough but I expect it to be – UTO (Up The Owls).’

If we can shackle Gayle then we could ****** a point. Doubtful though. He’s on fire.’

‘Fancy us. FF and Fletch. 0-2.’

‘Head says 2-0 to the Barcodes. Heart hopes for 1-1.’

‘Win, lose or draw it’s going to be loud from us. Hit f***ing horses, you only hit f***ing horses.’

‘We play best when we can set up to counter attack so this game will suit us.

Obviously it’s going to be a tough one but if we can keep it tight and hope for some FF magic you never know.’

‘5-0 to toon army: We cant score.’

‘They’ve won 7, lost 3 from 10 home games. Similar record to ours at home. Makes me feel a bit more optimistic!’

‘We look better and play better away from home this season as teams just try to stifle us at home.

Newcastle won’t sit back so will be good for us for a change and as a result can see us getting at least two.

I’m thinking it’ll be a very open and entertaining game with us turning out deserved winners.’

‘If we catch them cold and go for it from the off then it will be a close game.

Main thing for me is to not let Shelvey & Diame, their midfield power-houses, dominate the game and also, for one of our CBs to tactically & tactfully boot 10 bales out of Dwight Gayle early doors.

Hutch (if fit) v Shelvey will be a cracking tussle, and can see both getting reds..

Unfortunately, head ruling heart on this and I’m predicting a close 2-1 defeat..’

‘Ex-Mackem Steven Fletcher to score the Winner.’

‘We won’t win this.

And Newcastle don’t draw games. 3-1 Newcastle.’

‘Blackburn, Wolves and Udders have beaten them at their place this season so why can’t we??

They’ve won last 4 games so they’re ready for another home defeat i reckon.

Plus they’ll all still be bladdered from too much brown ale over xmas so it’ll be a push over…’

‘We are not going up there as cannon fodder far from it!

3200 Wednesdayites screaming the team on, players up for it and we are more than capable of getting a very positive result  2-1 Wednesday FF double.’

‘We’ll beat Newcastle and I can’t bloody wait.’

‘I think we should be realistic on this one. A draw would be a fantastic result.

I can see us putting out a team and formation that will make it really difficult for Newcastle to break down. If they score early then it is hard to see how we could get back into it. Our only chance of a win, is to get an early breakaway goal and hang on to it. Its going to be tough in front of a full house.

We can only hope for the best, any point would be a real bonus.’

‘Newcastle are about to find out why Forestieri is the best player in this league.’

‘At least most of us will be well oiled by kick off time. I’ve got a feeling we’ll need to be.’

‘Newcastle 1 Wednesday 2.

Newcastle will suffer from taking their foot off the gas with such a massive lead over third placed Reading and Forestieri will be out to impress.’
