Newcastle United are rejecting a £15m bid for Aleksandar Mitrovic according to claims this morning.
The club’s media partner The Mirror, says that according to their inside information, Newcastle will turn down the offer as Rafa Benitez wants to keep the forward for the promotion run-in.
The newspaper reports that Swansea have already indicated they will give the Magpies £15m as soon as the transfer window opens, in an attempt to find extra goals to stave off relegation.
Saturday saw a disastrous 3-0 defeat to relegation rivals Middlesbrough and whilst a win would have brought the two clubs together on 15 points, instead Swansea find themselves second bottom of the table with just 12 points – as even Sunderland climbed above them.
With only 20 goals in 17 Premier League matches, Swansea could do with some goals from somewhere.
Whether Aleksandar Mitrovic is that player remains to be seen but it would be a major surprise if Rafa Benitez did turn down such an offer if it became reality.
With only four Premier League starts this season, it is clear the United boss sees no role in the team unless something happens to Dwight Gayle.
As the biggest wage earner at the club surely Rafa would snap their hands off if Newcastle could make a profit on the Serbian, save on his huge wages and bring in a player who he does want to play in the team.
