Burton star ‘We played a Premier League team and they know they’ve had a game’

Despite a final scoreline of Burton 1 Newcastle 2, John Brayford says that the visitors ‘know they’ve had a game’.

The Burton defender (on loan from Sheffield United) thinks that Nigel Clough is proud of his players and believes the team are just not getting the ‘little breaks’.

It has become a pattern whereby many of Newcastle’s away matches have seen opposing managers/players talk about small margins and lucky breaks, yet it is Newcastle who invariably come out on top.

In the 11 Championship matches away from home so far, Newcastle have won eight, drawn one and lost only two.

Brayford also gives Newcastle a massive compliment, saying ‘we played a Premier League team out there’.

Let’s hope that becomes written in stone shortly this season with enough points on the board to guarantee it for next season.

John Brayford speaking to the Burton Mail:

“To put so much effort in and come away with nothing is a bit hard to take.

“We can take credit for the performances because of how well we’ve actually played.

“We played a Premier League team out there today and they know they’ve had a game.

“I can’t knock the lads’ efforts at all. I know I’m probably saying the same thing in how well we did and how we didn’t get the rub of the green.

“I think the manager is proud of us. It’s just getting those little breaks and finishing chances when we get them.

“I don’t necessarily believe it’s just the big teams – I think we’re playing well week in, week out.”
