Newcastle United 0 Manchester United 4
Newcastle’s young stars crumbled to yet another defeat on Saturday lunchtime, the NUFC Under 18s losing 4-0 to visitors Manchester United.
Rafa Benitez will be asking serious questions of his youth set-up, as after an opening run of four wins and a draw in the first five games of the season, the Newcastle United Under 18s have returned to the disappointing form of last season.
The last six games have now seen five defeats, the only bright spot a 4-2 win over Middlesbrough.
As well as the defeats, it will be the nature of them that bothers Rafa.
Last season saw the Newcastle Academy side on the wrong side of some heavy scorelines and the 4-0 reverse to Manchester United, now means that 18 goals have been conceded in the last six matches. This following only two conceded in those opening five games.
Angel Gomes opened the scoring and then Callum Gribbin made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.
The second-half saw Manchester United once again in control and further goals from Joshua Bohui and Indy Boonen ensured an embarrassing home scoreline for Dave Watson’s team.
