Tim Krul keeps clean sheet in first appearance for Ajax
A long 13 months since being injured when on international duty, Tim Krul today played for Ajax.
It might not have been the biggest game he has played in but the Ajax friendly against Achilles ’29 must have been a relief for the Newcastle keeper.
On loan for a year with Ajax, the final stages of Krul’s recovery from the knee injury he suffered in Kazakhstan have taken far longer than expected.
Voetbal international confirm that he came through the game ok this Thursday afternoon, a 2-0 win and a clean sheet against the team currently bottom of the table in Holland’s second tier.
The last competitive club match Tim Krul was involved in before that injury when playing for the Netherlands, was the 6-1 defeat for Newcastle at Manchester City in October 2015.
The ultimate target now for Krul will be to build towards targeting the current Ajax number one, Andre Onana.
The on-loan Newcastle keeper recently took part in a practice match between two teams of Ajax players and now he had taken part in a friendly against outside opposition, the next stage is likely to be playing for the Ajax reserve team who actually play in that second tier of Dutch football, along with the likes of Achilles ’29.
