Rafa Benitez has three players at risk of missing Hull v Newcastle next Tuesday.

Matt Ritchie has already served a one match ban against Cardiff and with five yellows has picked up more than any other Newcastle player.

However, despite picking up only one booking in the past two matches (Colback on Sunday at Leeds), there are a trio of Newcastle players now walking a tightrope.

Jonjo Shelvey has done pretty well to only pick up one in the last nine matches but he is still only one more away from a suspension.

Hopefully Shelvey will be at least available for that League Cup quarter-final, as it will be a good test to see how Newcastle are progressing, although the former Liverpool and Swansea player is also still awaiting a date for his misconduct hearing and potential suspension from that charge.

With so many matches, including progress in the cup, it is inevitable United are going to be picking up some suspensions but along with everything else, Rafa appears to have the discipline side of things pretty much sorted.

Vurnon Anita picked up a red card at home to Wolves and these are how the 39 yellows are spread around, in contrast the opposition teams have picked up 43 yellows and two reds:

5 Matt Ritchie

4 Jonjo Shelvey, Jack Colback, Paul Dummett,

3  Dwight Gayle, Yoan Gouffran, Jamaal Lascelles, Aleksandar Mitrovic

2 Mohamed Diame, Ayoze Perez,

1 Grant Hanley, Daryl Janmaat,  Matz Sels, Christian Atsu, Karl Darlow, Isaac Hayden
