Rafa Benitez “I receive this award in their name and for the city. Come on Toons!”
It was revealed this morning that, as expected, Rafa Benitez had been named Championship Manager of the month.
With five games and five wins, the Newcastle boss was nailed on for the award, Chris Hughton at Brighton doing next best, with four wins and a draw.
There was the usual announcements on the likes of Sky Sports and the official Newcastle United site – but Rafa Benitez decided to also put up a message on his own personal website.
Rafa said that in football ‘the whole is greater than the sum of the parts’, making clear this was an award earned by all at the football club.
He also rounded off by declaring he accepted the award ‘for the city’ as well, before declaring ‘Come on Toons!’.
“I have just been informed that I have been awarded the ‘best coach of the month for October ‘ by the LMA and I am honored to accept.
“However, as we all know, in a collective sport like football, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts and would not be possible without the effort, collaboration of all those who make up a team.
“Starting from the players, the coaching staff and all at the club, come together to combine and achieve their objective.
“To make fans happy who support their club through good and bad times, week in, week out. To all the staff, players and contributors, I appreciate their daily support.
“I receive this award in their name and for the city. This is a prize for all. Come on Toons!”
