Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles gives another rousing interview ahead of Leeds game
Jamaal Lascelles has agreed that Leeds fan can be ‘quite lively’ but questions what there is to worry about when the Newcastle players are used to playing in front of fifty two thousand every other week.
It is the first Elland Road sellout in six years but the Newcastle Captain says: ‘But this is our job, this is what we do, we can handle the pressure’.
Jamaal Lascelles says that they don’t really get days off under Rafa Benitez but doesn’t mind, saying that the Newcastle players are ‘raring to go’ after the international break.
Leeds have collected more points (22) from the last 10 matches than every other Championship team outside Brighton (26) and Newcastle (25), with Lascelles saying that he has been keeping an eye of their form as they have broke into the top six.
The message is still the same though, with the former Forest defender simply saying the Newcastle team have to ‘stay focused, to outwork them, and our talent should cross us over the line’.
Jamaal Lascelles talking to NUFC’s official TV channel:
‘Feeling good after the international break?’
“Yes, definitely. We have had a few days off but the boys are back in and looking sharp in training – everybody is raring to go.
“Sometimes people say a little break isn’t good for momentum but we have already had two (previous) international breaks and came back really strong. I’m really looking forward to the game on Sunday.”
‘You don’t get many days off under Rafa Benitez but nobody can say you don’t deserve them?’
“No, we don’t really get days off, we are always in working hard and even if it is just for a cool down, we are still in showing our faces.”
‘Leeds and Newcastle, two clubs that arguably deserve to be in the Premier League?’
“Well, yes, Leeds are a good team, they have always been up there in the Championship but like I’ve said before, repeating myself, we don’t really look at other teams too much.
“I am confident that whoever we play we can put up a good show. So we are just going to play in the right way, a professional manner, take it to them on Sunday.”
‘Always an intimidating atmosphere at Elland Road?’
“Yes, the fans are quite lively down there.
“Pretty sure they will turn up even more against us.
“But this is our job, this is what we do, we can handle the pressure.
“We play in front of fifty two thousand every other weekend so that is a massive stage – but we are looking forward to it.”
“I’ve kept an eye on them and they are doing pretty well.
“It is going to be an interesting game but every game in the Championship is tough.
“We just need to stay focused, to outwork them, and our talent should cross us over the line.”
