Newcastle United’s Jack Colback has accepted a charge of misconduct.

In an official statement released on Monday afternoon, the club confirmed that the midfielder had pleaded guilty to breaking betting rules governing football.

Jack Colback has also accepted a punishment of a £25,000 fine.

The rule breaking is said to have occurred ‘in respect of a bet placed on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, a football match or competition on 16 March 2016.’

The timing of this was the Wednesday two days after Newcastle had lost 1-0 at Leicester in Rafa’s first game in charge and four days before the derby at St James Park when Newcastle drew 1-1 with Sunderland (late Mitro header).

Newcastle United Official Statement:

‘Jack Colback has been fined £25,000 after he accepted an FA misconduct charge in relation to betting.

The Newcastle United player breached FA Rule E8 in respect of a bet placed on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, a football match or competition on 16 March 2016.’
