Newcastle star nominated for October Championship PFA Player of the Month
One Newcastle star has been nominated for the Championship PFA Player of the Month award.
Newcastle have won all five Championship matches in October and Dwight Gayle has scored four goals in four appearances this month.
The striker scored twice in the 3-1 win over Brentford and then three days later scored both goals in the win at Barnsley.
Left on the bench for the 6-0 League Cup win over Preston, Gayle missed the trip to Deepdale on Saturday with a hamstring problem.
Tuesday morning and Sky Sports have announced the nominations for each division and these are the six for the Championship award:
Dwight Gayle (Newcastle)
Gary Hooper (Sheffield Wednesday)
Massimo Luongo (QPR)
Paul Gallagher (Preston)
Peter Whittingham (Cardiff)
Sam Baldock (Brighton)
We will bring you details of how to vote when voting opens tomorrow on the Championship award, today (Tuesday) it is voting on the Premier League candidates.
The contenders for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month awards for October can be revealed by Sky Sports.
Our expert panel has produced the shortlist of contenders but it’s you, the fans, who will be able to decide where the award goes by voting for the player you think deserves it the most.
One voting fan in each division, who is a resident in the UK or Ireland, will win the chance to meet and present the award to each PFA Fans’ Player of the Month.
The panel includes Sky Sports football pundits Paul Merson, Ian Holloway and Peter Beagrie. That trio will be joined by Mike Riley, general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials, and Malcolm Clarke, chairman of the Football Supporters Federation.
Voting will start this week for each individual league, starting with the Premier League on Tuesday. The Sky Bet Championship vote will take place on Wednesday with the Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two votes taking place on Thursday and Friday respectively.
