Kyle Bartley says that he and the rest of the Leeds United players were ‘really disappointed’ not to get anything from Sunday’s match.
The Leeds Captain saying that Rafa Benitez’ players ‘showed us what it is like to be at the top of the league’.
The qualities Bartley picks out as the difference between the two teams are ‘you have to be ruthless, clinical’.
There was one clanger and one sublime team move that created the two goals but Leeds are just the latest opposition who don’t seem to recognise that it is the way that Rafa Benitez squeezes the life out of the opposition, that really creates the gulf in class.
Newcastle as usual started the game by stamping their authority, controlling the ball and hardly giving the home side a kick, then scored the opener and cruised from there.
With Rafa and his defence content to soak up the pressure and counter-attack after going two up, it means the opposition get more of the ball and gives them an illusion of having actually been in the game more than they actually have.
Long may it continue!
Leeds Captain Kyle Bartley talking to Leeds United official site:
“We are disappointed but we have talked afterwards about taking the positives out of the game.
“Newcastle showed us what it is like to be at the top of the league, you have to be ruthless, clinical and take advantage of the important moments in the game.
“We are disappointed with the first goal but it is one of those things when you are in the defence or a goalkeeper, any little mistake will be punished.
“Rob Green has probably saved us 9-12 points already this season, he has been fantastic and you just take it on the chin and move on.
“Newcastle are a team full of Premier League quality and I think it shows how far we have come to be really disappointed we didn’t get a result against them.
“The crowd were fantastic with a full house at Elland Road, they really got behind us and that is why we are disappointed we let the game get away from us.”
