Newcastle 2 Cardiff 1 – Saturday 5 November 3pm
We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle:
Leazes Park Ender:
“It can’t be champagne and chocolates every week. That is two games where Newcastle have clung on for three points.
“Atsu and Mitrovic’ profligacy ensured the nervy end. It should have been at least 3-0.
“A win in second gear? Maybe it was.
“Mitrovic hasn’t had his best game there today. Gayle is a bit sharper.
“We will need that away at Leeds. That’s a really big test.
“For now, the table looks very healthy.”
“Another game ticked off.
“League looking good.
“Had to battle and dig in but 3 points is all that matters.”
“Massive three points for us, that were just about deserved for us there.
“Probably the best game I have seen Mitro have.
“Would have been very different game if we hadn’t have scored with our first attack, but we did
“So who cares?”
“Not a classic showing mind.
“(Newcastle) Having controlled the first half, Cardiff then had the best chances of the second and the final 15 was very nervy.
“After two strong showings Mitro was off the pace, constantly dropping too deep and missing a golden chance to put the game away at 2-0.
“Mustn’t grumble though, 8 points clear of third and looking stronger than ever going into another stupid pointless irritating international break.”
“Another 3 points in the bag.
“It all went a bit astray in the second half but we held on.
“2 good goals again and a well earned rest before we take on Leeds.”
“By no means a classic by any stretch of the imagination.
“Lacklustre at times, not at our best, but we didn’t need to be.
“Happy with the 3 points.”
“Promoted by March…?’
“Successful family jaunt to Level 7 – just.
“Rafa says the only thing that’ll stop NUFC’s rampage towards the title is complacency. Well maybe that and Championship refereeing!
“Bizarre performance by the ref made it closer than it should be.
“Mitro was a menace and loving his running with the ball.
“Atsu got a goal and misses a cracking chance, problem for me was he gave the ball away cheaply a few times.
“Either way, 3 more points – eight in a row. Enjoy Bonfire night!”
“Let’s make something harder than it needs to be!
“Still, grinding out a win is better than being ground down.
“ I’ll take that.”
