Newcastle 0 Blackburn 1  – Saturday 26 November 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle:

Leazes Park Ender:

“Six changes on the team sheet came as a surprise and I can only assume it was with an eye in the cup match in midweek.

“Blackburn were dogged and well organised while this week we saw a slacker display from those in black and white.

“All winning runs have to end, right? They need to regroup and go again and avoid turning a drama into a mini crisis.

“Mitrovic was guilty of some big misses there today and his overall showing proved why Rafa has mainly used him as a sub. He’s a long way off getting his own Metro station.

“Perez had another in and out day and the ball just didn’t seem to sit down for Matt Ritchie. Atsu also a bit lightweight and profligate.

“Maybe it was a few changes too many today?

“Progress has been checked. The aim now is get back on track.

“Maybe look to bring in one or two new faces in January.”

Jamie Smith:

“The wholesale changes, obviously made with Hull in mind, seemed to backfire horribly on a day we just didn’t get going.

“Mitrovic and particularly Perez had poor games leading the line and it was obvious a set-piece would be Blackburn’s way into us, with the amount of corners we shipped leading to the inevitable.

“It’s not the end of the world though, we’re still top and I expect a response to this, we have done with previous setbacks. Don’t panic!”

Scott:

“Disappointed but hey, onto the next. Just one of those days.

“Can’t dwell on it. Pick ourselves up and knuckle down.

“I’m in no doubt the moaners will be out in force – but listen – you would have taken 9 wins out of 10.

Nat Seaton:

“Sadly, a total no show that ends the great run.

“Deserved nothing from a performance like that.

“Too many players having poor games against a team that was up for the ‘fight’.

“Here’s hoping for a better display on Tuesday…”

Paul Lyon:

“Shame Mick Lowes retired after today’s game, his pre-match speech was stirring, lump in your throat stuff – all the best Mick!

“My confidence before this one had me worried

“Forgettable first half.

“Too many 6/10’s today, nothing we tried in the 2nd came off. Can’t win them all.

“Divvent worry, we’re still gannin up!”

Toon Bano:

“Pathetic result.

Another wasted game.

“We should walk this league with games to spare but insist on making it interesting.

“Hopefully we stick one over Hull.”

Jamie Swan

“FFS. If you wanna be the best and you wanna beat the rest, oo-oo dedication’s what you need…

“Well not so much dedication as medication for the boys today and no record breaking either.

“A lethargic performance that would drive you mad enough to stick the late Roy Castle’s trombone where the sun doesn’t shine (and I don’t mean the Boro).

“We’ve been on an unbelievable run, shame it ends to a team we should be spanking. That’s why bookies are minted and I live under a bridge. Hey ho.

“Hopefully, the changes that didn’t do us any favours today, work for Tuesday and a cracking opportunity to rid the mind of such a damp squib.

“Can’t knock Rafa’s rotation policy, he’s done it all season.

“Let’s win the next nine and stop losing to crap teams. Though fair play to Rovers who took advantage of our lot who turned up in slippers.”
