Dwight Gayle was one of six players nominated for the Championship PFA Player of the Month award on Tuesday.

Newcastle won all five Championship matches in October and Dwight Gayle scored four goals in four appearances last month.

The striker scored twice in the 3-1 win over Brentford and then three days later scored both goals in the win at Barnsley.

A total of 11,992 votes were cast for the six nominations and Dwight Gayle received an incredible 9,042 of them!

The other five players received less than 25% of the votes (2,950) between them, with Dwight Gayle registering over 75%.

As dominant a performance as the 6-0 Newcastle cup win over Preston that Gayle sat out last week!

The voting for the six nominations was:

9042 Dwight Gayle (Newcastle)

846 Gary Hooper (Sheffield Wednesday)

751 Sam Baldock (Brighton)

669 Peter Whittingham (Cardiff)

399 Massimo Luongo (QPR)

285 Paul Gallagher (Preston)

Sky Sports on Tuesday:

The contenders for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month awards for October can be revealed by Sky Sports.

Our expert panel has produced the shortlist of contenders but it’s you, the fans, who will be able to decide where the award goes by voting for the player you think deserves it the most.

One voting fan in each division, who is a resident in the UK or Ireland, will win the chance to meet and present the award to each PFA Fans’ Player of the Month.

The panel includes Sky Sports football pundits Paul Merson, Ian Holloway and Peter Beagrie. That trio will be joined by Mike Riley, general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials, and Malcolm Clarke, chairman of the Football Supporters Federation.
