In a 21 word statement, Rangers have confirmed that they’ve parted company with Joey Barton after a fractious few months.
Joey Barton had been suspended at Rangers since a major bust-up with Manager Mark Warburton and other players after a thumping defeat to Celtic in September.
Joey Barton’s suspension recently ended and Rangers were obliged to offer their player training facilities, so sent him to train with the kids.
The Daily Record reporting that he was also banned from using the senior players’ car park and canteen, to which Joey Barton reacted by turning up for one training session with the Under 20s before getting a sicknote off the doctor for ‘stress’.
Thursday afternoon has seen Rangers issue the following, very short, official statement:
“Rangers and Joey Barton have agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect.
“Neither Rangers nor Joey Barton will comment further.”
Not sure what the Rangers fans will make of the affair and where they will apportion blame – but Joey Barton has left them with this message:
“I’d like to thank the supporters of Rangers for their incredible support during my time at the club.
“Wish you all the best for the future.”
The former Newcastle midfielder has been linked with numerous clubs as a (now) free agent, with Steve Bruce and Aston Villa claimed to be the favourites by various media.
