Interesting Newcastle v Blackburn player ratings – Two villains and Two retain credibility

The results of the Newcastle v Blackburn player ratings.

Always interesting to see how thousands of Newcastle fans rate the players, especially after a surprise result and performance such as Saturday’s.

Obviously, nobody was going to get top marks but who retained credibility and who was a liability?

Two of the starting eleven kept a bit of self-respect with decent displays on the end of a run of very good performances.

It tells a story of the Blackburn match that Newcastle’s top rated players were defensive player: Karl Darlow easily top man with 6.6, whilst Ciaran Clark (5.9) as usual looked the most accomplished defender and tried to get forward as well when space opened up.

Only two others in the starting eleven rated 5.0 or better, with another defender in DeAndre Yedlin (5.3) and Jonjo Shelvey (5.5), the latter doing his best to open up the visitors but let down by those in front of him.

Speaking of which, the woeful Ayoze Perez (3.3) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (3.5) were bottom of the pile, neither player looking to have either the quality or effort needed on the day.

The other five were rated much of a muchness, poor performances but nowhere near as bad as the front two. The quintet all scored between 4.2 and 4.8, with Mbemba (4.8) rated best of them, then Jesus Gamez (4.6), Isaac Hayden (4.5), Matt Ritchie (4.4) and Christian Atsu (4.2).

Interestingly, usual scapegoat Paul Dummett actually got the third highest mark (5.7) when coming on as a sub for the unfortunate Gamez.

Below are the ratings as voted by Newcastle fans up to 3pm on Sunday afternoon:
