Newcastle United loan star Kevin Mbabu hasn’t had the best of times on his return to Switzerland.
Back there on loan for Young Boys, the 21 year old defender has had limited chances to progress his development, with more than a few Newcastle fans wondering whether he maybe should have been given his chance at St James Park this season.
With two minutes of Europa League football and one start (plus one as sub) in domestic cup competitions, on Sunday Kevin Mbabu made only his third league start of the season (having made two as a sub previously as well).
Playing seventh placed Lausanne away from home the match ended in a 2-1 away win for Mbabu and Young Boys, which keeps them second in the table, but this was only due to a superb clearance from the on-loan Newcastle defender (watch it below).
Mbabu showing terrific pace and commitment to get back and prevent what looked a certain goal.
The result may keep Young Boys in second place but Basel are completely dominating this league once again, with 14 wins and 2 draws they are unbeaten and a massive 15 points clear after only 16 games.
As for Newcastle fans, we wonder whether Rafa Benitez will see any long-term future for Kevin Mbabu, a player who on very limited evidence in games for Newcastle looks to have ability.
