Sky Sports pundit says Jonjo Shelvey is greatest Championship player ever
Jonjo Shelvey has been pulling the strings for Newcastle United this season and it hasn’t gone without the odd mention.
Ian Holloway has declared that the former Liverpool & Swansea player is ‘probably the best player I’ve ever seen play in the Championship’.
The Sky Sports pundit though says Jonjo Shelvey comes as a double act with Dwight Gayle, stating ‘Those two are the reason why Newcastle will continue to motor on.
Holloway predicts Newcastle to go top of the Championship for the first time this season after Tuesday’s matches.
Forecasting a 3-1 win for Newcastle at Barnsley and a 1-1 draw for Norwich at Fulham, it would send the Magpies one point clear at the top,
As for star man Jonjo Shelvey, the manager turned pundit says that Barnsley and the rest ‘have to stop Shelvey if are to have any chance’.
After recent performances including his latest man of the match display against Brentford, you won’t find me disagreeing.
Ian Holloway speaking to Sky Sports:
“Newcastle are the Jonjo Shelvey and Dwight Gayle show. It’s ominous for the rest of the division.
“Teams have to stop Shelvey if are to have any chance. He goes here, there and everywhere.
“He’s probably the best player I’ve ever seen play in the Championship.
“He never looks to play the simple ball, he’s always looking to hurt you. Gayle is his dream ticket.
“You don’t play the pass if you haven’t got the runner. Gayle is always playing on the shoulder and Shelvey is always looking to get him away.
“Those two are the reason why Newcastle will continue to motor on, starting at Oakwell.”
