Dwight Gayle is set to miss tomorrow’s match at Deepdale.
Rafa Benitez has revealed that the striker has a ‘little problem’ that is likely to mean he misses the Preston game.
With Dwight Gayle having been named amongst the substitutes on Tuesday night, though he didn’t get onto the pitch, it is safe to assume that the former Palace forward has picked up a knock in training.
At his Friday press conference, Rafa said that Gayle’s (unspecified) injury wasn’t serious, but it did mean he is a big doubt for tomorrow.
Looking for the positives, the United boss said ‘Dwight Gayle is a big doubt but Mitro is scoring, Ayoze Perez is scoring, Diame scoring, so good competition’.
One player who definitely misses is Jack Colback, the midfielder taken to hospital after the challenge/assault on him during Tuesday’s match, receiving stitches for his troubles.
Rafa Benitez also confirmed that Chancel Mbemba is another doubt, even though the DR Congo defender came through 90 minutes in that fourth round League Cup match.
Better news saw the Newcastle Manager reveal that the long-term injured Massadio Haidara would be included in tomorrow’s squad, whilst Achraf Lazaar is another left-back option who is now also available once again.
