Newcastle have the best squad, best team and one of the best stadiums but Mick McCarthy says that Rafa Benitez and his players won’t be ‘rubbing their hands’ at the thought of playing Ipswich.

No Championship team has conceded fewer than the nine Ipswich have leaked, including five goals in six away matches.

However, only one team have scored less than the 10 goals Ipswich have totalled in their 13 games this season, with only two in six away matches.

Mick McCarthy acknowledges the job Rafa has done, saying the Magpies ‘got their act together’ after losing to Fulham and Huddersfield in the opeing two matches.

The next 11 games producing 28 points from a possible 33, with nine wins, one draw and only the one further loss to Wolves.

As for where NUFC currently find themselves, Mick McCarthy simply states ‘Newcastle shouldn’t be in the Championship’.

Mick McCarthy:

“We are going to the league leaders and arguably the best squad, best team, one of the best stadiums.

“You know Newcastle shouldn’t be in the Championship.

“That is full stop.

“And the way they are going, they won’t be.

“But we are going up there to try and put a stop to it.

“They have got their act together from the start, (after) defeats on the bounce.

They’ve beaten Norwich, Brentford...but they will not be rubbing their hands thinking we are going up there, they certainly know it won’t be easy.”
