Ray Parlour comes out with less than striking prediction for Dwight Gayle
Former Arsenal player turned pundit, Ray Parlour, has came up with a less than startling prediction for Dwight Gayle.
After the Newcastle striker made it seven goals in his last four matches and 11 for the season, Ray Parlour says he thinks Gayle is a ‘certainty’ to finish as the Championship’s top scorer.
Not exactly the Nostradamus of the new millennium….
Ray Parlour talking to Talksport:
“He was a brilliant signing.
“He is a poacher and he gets in the right positions.
“I thought he was a certainty to finish as top scorer in the Championship.”
Looking at the stats of the Championship’s top scorers it becomes obvious that Dwight Gayle is not just impressing with the sheer number of goals he has scored.
The Newcastle forward has on average scored a goal every 87 minutes he has been on the pitch, 41 minutes less than the next best, Bristol City’s Tammy Abraham.
When it comes to accuracy as well, Gayle has got 23 of his 37 shots on target, an average of 62%. Only Brentford’ Scott Hogan has bettered that with 70% on target.
However, it also becomes obvious just what an advantage Dwight Gayle has with his supporting cast of Shelvey, Ritchie and the rest. With 37 shots that is way more than any of the other leading scorers, Hogan next with 30 and then Leeds’ Chris Wood with 29.
Stats on Championship top scorers from BBC Sport:
