Rafa Benitez reaction to the quarter-final cup draw at Hull
Rafa Benitez has spoken after the League Cup quarter-final draw was made.
Rafa having discovered that Newcastle face a short journey down to Hull City for the chance of a two-legged semi-final.
Leeds were the only one of seven potential opponents that aren’t a Premier League club, so the Newcastle Manager says he knew that the odds were that NUFC would draw a team from a level above.
Rafa Benitez says that Newcastle ‘have confidence’ but that ‘it will be a hard game against a side from a higher league’.
Hull started surprisingly well in the Premier League, beating both Leicester and Swansea in their first two games, but have now taken only one point from the following possible 21 and have dropped into the relegation zone.
Missing out on Leeds, it looks obvious that Hull City were next best, judging by these other three ties:
Liverpool v Leeds
Arsenal v Southampton
Man Utd v West Ham
“At this stage of the competition, there were a lot of Premier League sides so it was always likely to be a difficult tie.
“We have confidence, because we are doing well, but we have a lot of respect for Hull because they are a Premier League team and we will play away from home.
“So we will approach the game with hope that we can do well – but also knowing that it will be a hard game against a side from a higher league.”
This fourth round of the League Cup also saw record attendances across the eight games, 341, 942 watching the games, whilst previously this stage of the competition had never seen more than three hundred thousand collectively watching the matches.
