Preston 1 Newcastle 2 – Saturday 29 October 3pm
We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle:
Leazes Park Ender:
“Nine added minutes made for a nervous end to what seemed a comfortable win after 70 odd minutes.
“Credit to Preston for getting back into it but less so for an apparent object thrown at Yedlin from home areas.
“The woodwork came to the rescue at the death. Can’t work out where he got nine minutes from.
“The day belonged to Mitrovic. Two quality goals sealing the points and our seventh win on the bounce.
“They were always going to be a trickier prospect than in midweek. With Gayle sitting it out we had to adapt, but as many said in the summer, Mitro should tear up this division.
“Credit to Darlow for a save which helped earn the win.
“Norwich have faded and Brighton have emerged as the main threat now.
“Regardless of that league table, Rafa has us purring and Cardiff and his old mate Warnock are the next fence to jump.
“I see no reason why we can’t win that.”
“I think this was very important, beating the side that has done us huge favours in recent weeks.
“It was never gonna be as emphatic as the midweek decimation but we’ve ended their impressive streak and the positive progress seems unstoppable.
“Brighton suddenly have emerged as the main opponent, which tells a story in itself.
“The challengers will change hands, but we’ll be there till the end.”
“Another great away day following the Toon this season.
“Got a bit nervy towards the end but we held out.
“Momentum is building with every win.
“It’s great supporting our team for the first time in years – happy, happy times!!”
“Chuffed with the 3 points today, it was never gonna be as easy as Tuesday’s game.
“Pleased for Mitro, hopefully that’s him up and running now.
“It only makes us stronger to have two strikers chomping at the bit.”
“Just can’t think of the words….!”
“7 in 7, still too hungover from last night to properly take in the game.
“But from what I could make out as I drifted in and out of consciousness – it was painfully tight, especially NINE minutes of stoppage time. Howay man!
“Delighted for Mitro again, delighted for six thousand away fans including me next door neighbour Paul!
“Upwards and onwards boys!”
