What Nottingham Forest fans have had to say about Newcastle match being moved
Nottingham Forest fans have been reacting to news of a change of date for the trip to Newcastle United.
The match was scheduled for a 3pm Saturday kick-off on 31 December but now it has been brought forward to Friday 30th December and a 7.45pm kick-off.
You can read what the Nottingham Forest fans have had to say on their leading message board and on Twitter below.
Roughly speaking though they seem to fall into three categories:
Furious at the change now after fixtures were announced four months ago and TV changes confirmed a week ago.
An attitude which says that fans should have guessed a change was likely on New Year’s Eve.
Finally, who cares, this will extend my stay on the lash in Newcastle!
Official Newcastle United statement earlier today:
‘Newcastle United’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at home to Nottingham Forest has been moved forward to Friday 30th December (kick-off 7.45pm) in order to ease potential transport issues for supporters.
The match has been switched from New Year’s Eve, when thousands of supporters would have been leaving St. James’ Park at the same time as a significant public parade event at the city’s Civic Centre.
Five of the Magpies’ festive fixtures have now moved, with trips to Forest, Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers and a home clash with Sheffield Wednesday all selected for live broadcast by Sky Sports.
The home fixture with Nottingham Forest will not be shown live in the UK.’
Comments from Nottingham Forest fans on their top message board ForestForum:
‘Yet another game moved from Saturday to a Friday night.
I can’t even be bothered to complain anymore.’
‘Surely people could see this coming though? When the fixtures were announced it was obvious that at least our Derby and Newcastle games would be moved?
Booking hotels and stuff so early on is a rookie mistake, they change these sort of fixtures every year.’
‘Actually the situation of the ground almost in the city centre and the fact they have to physically close roads round the stadium on what is going to be a busy night anyway is a pretty compelling argument for moving the game.
Of course, one wonders why the Football League fixture consultants don’t spot these problems as they draw up the list.’
‘What roads have to be closed? If you apply this logic, then no games should go ahead in any town on NYE (smaller scale issues elsewhere, but smaller scale law enforcement resource available so all relative)?
No justification at all. It’s a w*** decision from a skint crappy council that doesn’t want to pay double time on wages. They’ve ruined my NYE in Newcastle and I’m not happy.
‘At least this way you have a day to get over the spanking before heading out into toon.’
‘Local authorities are ruining football.’
‘I used to park the truck on their car park years ago. Went out on the lash with a few other drivers once only to wake up late with a load of market stalls erected around me. That one took a bit of explaining to the gaffer.’
‘Good job the fixture list gets run past the various police and local authorities before release… else they’d move games at late notice due to reasons like this.’
‘Bollocks to it, couldn’t care less now.
Think I’ll go on holiday for a week instead, bit of winter sun.’
Nottingham Forest fans on Twitter:
‘What a load of bollocks. Had my hotel booked for New Years’ Eve as well but working on the 30th!’
‘Why wait until now to move the Newcastle game? Should’ve been done straight away. Not like nobody realised it was also NYE. Daft.’
‘The local authority in Newcastle have decided to move the NYE match forward a day another blow for fans who have sorted hotels/travel.’
‘Very irresponsible from FL to leave it until now to advice of change. You have known since summer this fixture was on NYE.’
‘Good job we was going up for new year anyway!!’
‘I will be honest the Newcastle game suites me perfect. This is the reason why I didn’t jump in and book hotels. Never happening on NYE.’
‘Relieved that we booked the hotel for Newcastle for 2 nights, 30th & 31st, Boom!’
‘NUFC thanks for changing the NFFC date do you not realise how much planning goes into getting to an away match at that time of year?’
‘What is the point in releasing the fixtures just for them to move them all, absolute joke having both nufc games on a Friday night.’
‘Had to book an extra night in Newcastle but for once can’t blame Sky Sports for this one!’
‘Thanks for moving the #nufc v #nffc game, what about people who’ve booked hotels and train?? You knew about this in August!!!’
‘Northumbria Police – Hey. Can you refund all the #nffc fans that were coming up for the game, that have booked hotels for New Years Eve??’
‘Very tough on those #nffc fans who have already made arrangements following last week’s TV schedule announcement.’
