Moussa Sissoko relief at leaving Newcastle “God thank you I signed with Tottenham”

Moussa Sissoko is away with France for the latest round of international matches.

The midfielder has been interviewed by the official FIFA website about his international football with France – but they also asked about what happened this summer.

Newcastle fans were happy to see the back of Moussa Sissoko as he only turned up for a handful of matches and the fact he scored only one goal all season, summed up his lack of effort.

Sissoko claims to ‘understand’ his Newcastle ‘critics’ but says that they ‘motivate me and push me to give more’, a shame we didn’t see many signs of that at St James Park.

The now Tottenham player says that ‘everybody new that I wanted to leave Newcastle’, which is certainly true. He’d done enough interviews over the past two or three years to leave nobody in any doubt that he felt no great affinity for Newcastle United, which was then proved match after match on the pitch.

Summing up his escape on transfer deadline day, Moussa Sissoko says ‘God thank you I signed with Tottenham’. Plenty of Newcastle fans will be saying ‘Amen’ to that.

Moussa Sissoko speaking to the official FIFA website:

“I had a complicated season with Newcastle, that ended with relegation.

My critics, I understand them. I would say they motivate me and push me to give more.

“I went on holiday and everybody knew that I wanted to leave Newcastle to go to a more ambitious club that plays in the Champions League and are at the top of the table.

God thank you I signed with Tottenham.

“I would have preferred it to be resolved earlier.

“I could rest a little but psychologically, it took my energy.

“Arriving late in the transfer window it is not the same, even though I was welcomed and everything went well.”
