Our man in Havana – DeAndre Yedlin helping to create history with USA
DeAndre Yedlin helped the USA create a bit of history on Friday.
The Newcastle defender playing the first half of their friendly in Havana.
The USA won 2-0 and this now makes it 10 wins in a row against Cuba, a run going back 67 years.
This is the USA national side’s longest winning run against any opposition.
Friday’s friendly was settled by two second half goals from Chris Wondolowski and Julian Green.
No injury worries though for DeAndre Yedlin as his withdrawal was just one of six that Jurgen Klinsmann made as he looks after his players, with the USA facing New Zealand in another (home) friendly on Tuesday.
The USA is now 10-1-1 all-time vs. Cuba, extending its now 10-game, 67-year winning streak against the island nation, which is the team’s longest current streak against any opponent.
USA: Ethan Horvath, DeAndre Yedlin (Timmy Chandler 46), Geoff Cameron, John Brooks (Steve Birnbaum 46), Fabian Johnson, Christian Pulisic (Chris Wondolowski 46), Michael Bradley, Sacha Kljestan (Danny Williams 69), Julian Green, Jozy Altidore (Paul Arriola, 69), Bobby Wood (Jordan Morris, 60)
