Leeds United legend disagrees with his manager about Newcastle United

Leeds United legend, Eddie Gray, has a very different view of Newcastle United than current manager Garry Monk.

Even though Norwich were beaten at home by Preston on Saturday afternoon and fell four points behind Newcastle, Monk claimed that Norwich were the best team in the Championship and would finish top come the end of May.

The Leeds boss putting forward the argument that the Canaries looked the strongest because they had kept intact most of their squad from the Premier League last season.

However, Eddie Gray think that with the players Newcastle have got, the Magpies ‘should run away with it’.

The former Leeds winger stating that Newcastle aside, most of the Championship teams, including Norwich City, are much of a muchness.

Through the week, Leeds United announced that Newcastle fans would be receiving the ‘highest possible’ allocation of tickets for the game at Elland Road on Sunday 20 November, what used to be a real grudge fixture and NUFC’s closest thing to a derby this season.

Eddie Gray talking to Leeds United TV:

“You look at Huddersfield getting beat the other night at Preston, Sheffield Wednesday got a decent result at Cardiff then jump up the table.

“There’s so many teams in this division who are equals – I think we (Leeds) can class ourselves in that bunch, Norwich should be disappointed at letting slip a two goal lead (at Fulham in the week).

“Looking at Newcastle United, the players they have got…they should run away with it.

“The other sides though are capable of beating most teams in the league, including Leeds United.”
