Jonathan Douglas isn’t a name that will ring many bells for Newcastle fans.

However, he was somebody who helped get plenty of United supporters laughing after the 3-0 win over Ipswich yesterday.

I remember last time we were in the Championship, you would see players of all shapes and sizes competing against Newcastle United.

Not that they didn’t have ability in many cases, just that when you are used to seeing the level of fitness and physique that is necessary to compete in today’s Premier League, it does/did catch the eye some of the characters underneath the top tier.

For Ipswich, their number 22 caught the eye of many Newcastle fans, especially Rachel C, who captured this classic footage (see below) of the visiting midfielder looking just a little bit out of place…must have been the angle etc etc.

Trying to compete with the likes of Premier League players (in all but name) such as Jonjo Shelvey, Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie, we had Ipswich number 22 Jonathan Douglas.

He turns 34 in November and has played all his football in the lower league, apart from a handful of matches in the Premier League for Blackburn when he was just starting out.

Playing most games for Brentford and Leeds, Jonathan Douglas also made a handful of appearances for Ireland.

Enjoy Rachel’s excellent footage below and top marks for the classy response that follows from Jonathan Douglas himself, taking it in the right spirit…
