Ian Holloway predicts Preston v Newcastle
Ian Holloway hopes that it isn’t the same story for Preston as it was on Tuesday, with the Manager turned pundit not wishing a repeat of the six goal drubbing in the League Cup.
Describing it as ‘deja vu’, with the two teams meeting once again only four days later, he is confident it will be a ‘different situation.
Ian Holloway says that Preston ‘are really good at home’ but Newcastle United are ‘looking like the real deal’.
Preston’s record at home isn’t really all that good, with four wins and three defeats, meaning 12 points from a possible 21.
Whereas with five wins, a draw and a defeat, Newcastle have taken 16 points from 21 on their travels.
Preston’s most impressive stat was that before Tuesday, they had been unbeaten in their last seven games and defeated the likes of Norwich, Villa, Bournemouth and Huddersfield.
Coming down to his final prediction, Ian Holloway goes for Newcastle to win 2-1.
However, his choice of first goalscorer is a bit of a surprise, choosing Mohamed Diame – looking for him to continue his goalscoring form from Tuesday when he scored his first goals of the season.
Ian Holloway talking to Sky Sports:
“It’s deja vu!
“I hope it doesn’t go the same way for Preston like the 6-0 defeat in midweek and it will be a totally different situation.
“Preston are really good at home but Newcastle are looking like the real deal at the minute.”
