Dwight Gayle claimed that he was just ‘helping out’ on Tuesday night when making it seven goals in his last four matches for Newcastle United.

The United striker went clear at the top of the Championship goalscorers charts, having now scored 11 times, at a rate of one every 87 minutes.

Whilst Dwight Gayle was underplaying his contribution at Oakwell, the official EFL team of midweek certainly hasn’t.

The Newcastle star named in their best eleven of this latest round of fixtures, with the EFL official website stating:

“Two goals on Saturday and another two on Tuesday for the Sky Bet Championship’s top scorer.

Gayle’s poaching prowess came to the fore as his double helped Newcastle overcome Barnsley, a day after his birthday. Not a bad way to start life as a 26-year-old.”
