After going three points clear on Saturday with a fifth win on the bounce, DeAndre Yedlin is hoping that Newcastle can start to break away from the chasing pack.

The USA international though, accepts that it is a case of game by game.

The right-back had another excellent game against Ipswich, his pace regularly leaving the opposition trailing in his wake.

Despite Ipswich having the minimum of threat, DeAndre Yedlin sets high standards and believes Newcastle ‘gave them more of a sniff at goal than we should have’.

The former Spurs player hopes to get another game on Tuesday night and with the ticket sales heading over 42,000 early on Monday afternoon, he could be set to play in front of another ‘amazing’ crowd at St James Park.

DeAndre Yedlin talking to NUFC TV:

“I thought we played a very good game (v Ipswich), we came out very strong and of course an early goal helps.

“I think there were a few ups and a few times when we lost concentration and gave them more of a sniff at goal than we should have – but overall a strong performance.

“In this team it is hard to play because of the depth and talent of this team, every time you get on the field it is great – especially when playing in front of fifty two thousand fans, it is amazing.”

‘Another clean sheet?’

“It’s huge.

“If you don’t give up a goal you don’t lose.

“Everybody can take pride in that. It was good for us and then at the other end the guys did the business and got the goals.

“Hopefully we can start and break away now, just need to take it game by game. You try to win every game you play, even if it is a friendly.

So we will have a strong line-up on Tuesday for the cup and whoever plays will be able to get the job done.

“The competition gets tougher and tougher the further you get on – but we have a great team and I think we can make a good run (in the League Cup).”
