Date for special Newcastle United Legends Gallowgate Flags day confirmed
Recent days brought news that the Gallowgate Flags organisers were bringing to an end the pre-match displays, for the ‘foreseeable’ future.
After only a few matches they admitted that with a dwindling number of supporters volunteering to help, it wasn’t feasible to keep the pre-match initiative going at the minute.
When asked if the halt to the displays was connected with the stealing of the Gallowgate Flags (around 20% of them were reported to have been taken by fellow supporters on the day of the first display), the organisers stated that this wasn’t the case.
Gallowgate Flags:
“For people asking there’ll be no flag displays for the foreseeable as we don’t have the volunteers.
“No not at all (more flags being stolen). All are handed back. We’ve just been doing smaller displays due to lack of volunteers.”
“Just some clarification – Flag displays will be back bigger and better very soon. Just need some time to re-organise and plan things.”
This indication that more of the pre-match flag displays would happen sometime in the new year, has then been followed by news on Thursday night that a special ‘Legends Day’ will happen next month.
Newcastle play Cardiff at St James Park on Saturday 5 November and there will be 12 Newcastle legends, including Supermac, honoured with ‘huge flags pre-game’.
