Barnsley 0 Newcastle 2 – Instant fan/writer reaction

Barnsley 0 Newcastle 2 – Tuesday 18 October 7.45pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle:

Leazes Park Ender:

“Dwight Gayle’s hot streak goes on and it was enough to propel Rafa’s Newcastle to the top of the Championship.

“The trick now is try and stay there.

“Gayle, who cost us £10m, is repaying that fee in fine style. He’s our best player by a mile. He’d made himself undroppable.

“He has the impish burst of a Craig Bellamy but the finishing is way more clinical.

“Mitrovic simply cannot get a sniff at the moment.

“United had to be patient tonight and eventually the Tykes cracked in a much better second half.

“Results elsewhere were kind to us so top spot has been secured.

We go again Saturday. There is a feeling of momentum now. As KK always said, it’s a momentum club!”

Jamie Smith:

“Brilliant win and finally we sit on top of the Championship!

“A long way to go but when you add in that we’ve played most of the top half and few of the bottom half, things are looking pretty bloody promising.

“Anyone out there still bleating on about Mitrovic playing, is a cretinous moron –  and shouldn’t be allowed in the ground by the way.

“The manager knows his stuff, and this is working!!

“Viva la m***** f****** Rafalution!!”

Nat Seaton:

“Can’t tell you how different going to away games this season is compared with the last few years!!

“What celebrations with a no 9 scoring for fun right in front of us.

“Great times, here’s hoping we can keep it up – it’s certainly looking like we have the capability.

“Already looking forward to Saturday…”

James Rutherford:

“Top of the league. No looking back now!

“What a signing Gayle has been, the poacher we needed.

“Another poor one for Diame though, although it’s understandable why Rafa picks him away from home.

“Hopefully a fifth win on the spin come Saturday!”

Paul Lyon:

Watched the game at the beamback (at St James Park). Can’t really ask for much more than that.

“Decent enough performance, particularly in the second half shooting towards our fans.

“The type of result I’d take all season (said that a lot this season!) especially as Norwich failed to win.

“We’re Newcastle and we’re gonna win the league…”

George Stainsby:

“The system is working.

“It might not be that flashy but we seem to be top of the league.

Toon Bano:

“Finally top of the league.

“No reason why we shouldn’t stay there for a very long time.

“Gayle already a shoe-in for top scorer.

“Get in!!”

Jamie Swan

“Who doesn’t enjoy the Championship? Stand up, go to the back of the class and face the wall.

“Pride is being restored piece by piece. Another tricky little banana skin away game chalked off in front of SIX THOUSAND away fans!

“Delighted for the lads, delighted for Rafa, delighted for the brave fans travelling back through time from Barnsley, where Burt Reynolds filmed deliverance and which has remained trapped in 1986.

“Safe journey back to 2016 peeps!

“Another cracking away win. 3 points, clean sheet .

“Another box ticked off, top of the league – can’t ask for more.

“Long may this continue.

“Rafa, thank God you turned up at our doorstep.”
