The back four and goalkeeper the fans would choose for Newcastle v Brentford
Yesterday we asked supporters who you would like to see line up in the back five for Newcastle v Brentford.
After starting to look the part with a series of clean sheets, the defending went to pieces a bit with six conceded in the three Championship matches against Norwich, Wolves and Aston Villa.
Things picked up again though in the last match, when a gritty defensive display by the team helped United defeat Rotherham 1-0.
So on Tuesday we gave Newcastle fans 10 options to pick their goalkeeper and back four from, listed below is the percentage of supporters who backed each player:
89% Jamaal Lascelles
84% Karl Darlow
81% DeAndre Yedlin
70% Ciaran Clark
46% Achraf Lazaar
45% Chancel Mbemba
39% Paul Dummett
25% Vurnon Anita
14% Matz Sels
6% Grant Hanley
Some clear messages there…
Fans clearly see Captain Jamaal Lascelles (89%) as first choice in the middle of defence, the same with Karl Darlow( 84%) in goal and DeAndre Yedlin (81%) at right-back.
Ciaran Clark (70%) is also a popular choice to play alongside Lascelles.
Achraf Lazaar (46%) is a less than convincing choice at left-back as he edges out Chancel Mbemba (45%), who looks to have picked up votes both at centre-half and as an emergency left-back. Current first choice Paul Dummett receiving only 39% support.
