Walter Zenga is worried about one thing before tonight’s rematch with Newcastle United.
After analysing the data from Saturday’s win, the Wolves boss says the stand out statistic was the fact his players ran 119 kilometres, which is a ‘huge number’ according to Zenga.
Newcastle had a massive 68% of possession but the Wolves players chased and harried throughout, repeatedly forcing Newcastle back down the pitch, often with the ball then lost when eventually played forward.
You would hope that this is a situation where Newcastle’s larger squad will come into play and Rafa Benitez having the luxury of putting out a completely different team if he chooses, with next to no reduction in quality (on paper) from his first choice on Saturday.
Walter Zenga says ‘we want to have a nice evening’ but the expectation from Newcastle fans is that whoever is out on the pitch tonight, will have the determination to bounce back after Saturday’s error strewn match where the players appeared to lose that focus which carried them to six wins on the bounce.
“We have had the numbers of the game – we ran 119 kilometres – it was a very huge number.
“The most important thing was to recover well and prepare well – this is the job of our staff.
“Every game is different, of course we wish it will be the same game but also they will be trying to get revenge and beat us.
“We have to prepare as normal, like every time, and to play with passion, courage and get a good result.
“If you have a good performance probably you have a good result.
“It’s another game, another chapter, another story.
“We want to have a nice evening and this is our focus.”
