Top crowd on Cup night – The madness of Newcastle fans continues

The appetite of Newcastle fans to go to football matches is all a bit bizarre.

Relegation? Great, we’ll buy even more season tickets and fill St James Park, an average Championship attendance of over fifty thousand at the minute.

Lose on Saturday and a really poor performance, despite playing the same Championship club only three days later, Newcastle fans produce the biggest crowd of the night – despite there only being a handful of Wolves fans making the journey.

There were over 26,000 more Newcastle supporters than Leeds ones who turned out last night.

Newcastle the only one of eight cup-ties to get a crowd of over thirty thousand.

This despite Champions Leicester hosting Chelsea and second top of the Premier League Everton being at home.

In addition, both Derby and Forest had attractive home matches against Liverpool and Arsenal respectively.

A little bit of (Rafa) encouragement goes a long way where Newcastle fans are concerned…

Tuesday night’s League (EFL) Cup attendances:

34,735 Newcastle 2 Wolves 0

29,899 Leicester 2 Chelsea 4 (AET)

29,550 Everton 0 Norwich 2

28,567 Nottingham Forest 0 Arsenal 4

26,245 Derby 0 Liverpool 3

8,488 Leeds 1 Blackburn 0

7,595 Bournemouth 2 Preston 3 (AET)

6,235 Brighton 1 Reading 2
