QPR 0 Newcastle 6 – Tuesday 13 September 7.45pm
If we are honest, this is the one we were waiting for.
Not that the five match winning run hadn’t been fun…but it had missed that really dominant performance that announced Newcastle United were HERE!
Well, we’ve had the performance AND the goals, not that any of us would have expected six (SIX).
A fifth clean sheet in a row is not something to be sniffed at either.
A stunning display and not in doubt from the moment Jonjo Shelvey’s deflected effort crept over the line on 12 minutes.
Perez doubled the lead with a well taken goal after Matt Ritchie had opened up the defence with a brilliant cross.
Three minutes into the second period and the goal of the night, a brilliant curling effort from distance to give Shelvey his second and Newcastle their third.
Another assist from Matt Ritchie gave Ciaran Clark an easy header for his first Newcastle goal and 4-0.
Then Mitrovic capped a very good display by making it five on 63 minutes from close range, with substitute Grant Hanley completing the rout with a right foot shot following a corner.
This was no fluke either as the home keeper made some outstanding saves and United having a massive 29 shots away from home, 12 of them on target.
I can’t wait for Saturday.
