Things have been a bit grim at Newcastle United in recent times but Aston Villa still leave us well in the shade.
Recent years have seen Sunderland, Newcastle and Aston Villa trying their best to get relegated, with two of the trio managing it finally last season.
Newcastle spent a fortune last summer to look rubbish, Villa spent almost as much to not even look like a football team.
They truly were vying with the Sunderland and Derby County teams of past seasons, for the title of worse ever Premier League team.
However, despite knowing just how bad Aston Villa have been, it is only when you look properly at the stats that you realise just what a car crash of a club they have become.
In the last 14 months (since 8 August 2015), Aston Villa have won just 3 of 45 league matches played, their record is P 45 W 3 D 13 L29.
In those 14 months their fans have celebrated these league wins…
12 January 2016 Aston Villa 1 Crystal Palace 0
6 February 2016 Aston Villa 2 Norwich 0
13 August 2016 Aston Villa 3 Rotherham 0
In the same period, Newcastle fans (in comparison) have never had it so good, the record reading P45 W 14 D9 L22 in league games.
What this actually will mean for tomorrow’s match is anybody’s guess but surely Newcastle United must travel without fear to a club where the players, management and fans must have zero expectations, managing to win only one game even when they have dropped into the Championship.
I don’t think a draw would be a disgrace but surely losing to this lot would be a massive own goal for Newcastle United.
