Newcastle Match Ratings v Derby

The Newcastle match ratings v Derby.

Jonathan covered the match at Derby on Saturday for us and you can read his full analysis of the game when it goes up later.

In the meantime, here are his Newcastle match ratings v Derby for each NUFC player and what they contributed.

Sels – 7. Another clean sheet and that’s all you can ask from him – but still does not fill you with confidence.

Anita – 7. Started off very shaky with Anya getting the better of him multiple times but composed himself and looked assured after 30 minutes.

Mbemba – 9. My man of the match, definitely too good for the Championship.

Lascelles – 7. Calm and steady, his job is definitely made easier playing next to Mbemba.

Dummett – 7. did the bare minimum, looked solid and stayed calm, but looking forward to seeing Lazaar in action.

Colback – 8. Best performance from him in a long time. Did exactly what he was probably supposed to do, allowing Shelvey the space to open up.

Shelvey – 6.5. Started the game very well but tailed off in the second half. Looked lethargic after half-time and could have easily seen red for a second yellow.

Ritchie – 8. Brilliant again, a real class player. Imagine if we had signed two Matt Ritchies for £12 million each, instead of Thauvin and Cabella?

Gouffran – 9. Worked very hard and popped up with a great goal. Looking like the Gouffran of his first season in the Premier League (although he wasn’t brilliant).

Diame – 6. Looked tired and worked a few good openings but his final touch let him down more than once.

Gayle – 6. Difficult up top by himself but you can’t knock his effort.

Hayden – N/A – Not on long enough.

Yedlin – A goal on his debut and boy he looks very very quick! Or were Derby’s defenders just very slow…?

Perez – Can’t seem to get a game which may have him thinking he could leave for many a team in Europe’s top leagues.

The fans – 10. For some reason, and I don’t know why, today was one of the best away day atmospheres for a few years now. There is a real positive vibe which was evident with a few renditions of “We’re Newcastle and we’re going to win the league.”
