Newcastle Chief Scout takes in international match on Tuesday night

Graham Carr was spotted at the Sweden v Holland World Cup qualifier at the Friends Arena on Tuesday night.

The Newcastle Chief Scout has faded into the background since Rafa Benitez took overall control of transfers at St James Park but he was there watching as Sweden and Holland played out a 1-1 draw.

At least two players would have been very recognisable, with Wijnaldum in midfield and Daryl Janmaat restored at right-back.

Janmaat had used international football as a partial exguse for wanting out of Newcastle, with claims that Danny Blind might not consider players who are appearing in the second tier of English football.

Who, if anybody, Graham Carr was scouting last night is unknown.

However, Carr revealed to a Swedish reporter that he had taken in the under 21 match the previous (Monday) night with a particular interest in Joel Asoro and had been very impressed. Asoro is a 17 year old Swedish midfielder, helping Sweden to a creditable 1-1 draw with the Spanish Under 21s.

Arsenal’s scout responsible for Scandinavia, Bobby Bennett, also said that he was taking an interest in Asoro.

Interestingly…Joel Asoro is actually already living in the north east and is on Sunderland’s books, having made his Premier League in the recent home defeat to Middlesbrough as a late substitute.
