Matz Sels restarts Twitter account from scratch after ‘fan’ abuse – With an apology
Following the late goal conceded at Villa Park, Matz Sels took down his Twitter account.
After failing to totally convince Newcastle fans since his arrival from Gent, some ‘supporters’ had taken things to an extreme with typical (for social media) over the top abuse (read HERE).
Matz Sels, like many foreign keepers new to English football, has found it a steep learning curve when it comes to dealing with high balls into the box, but after conceding only seven goals in nine matches, including only two in five on the road – hardly a disastrous start to life at Newcastle.
However, in a bizarre twist, Matz Sels has restarted his Twitter account from scratch and put up a series of post-Villa messages.
The first one offered an apology to Newcastle fans for his part in the Villa equaliser and he then went on to promise to ‘improve’.
In the circumstances I would like to think it was a bit of Belgian humour in reference to some of our ‘fans’, when Matz Sels says ‘Thanks for all the support’.
It is ironic that many of the abusers were calling for Karl Darlow to be in the team, as no doubt they would have been the same kind of people abusing the former Forest keeper after he made a nervy start and let a soft winner in, when making his first ever Newcastle league start back in December 2015 at West Brom.
Matz Sels via Twitter after rebooting his Twitter account following Villa match:
“Sorry for my mistake today lads were good, we carry on and fight stronger on Wednesday.
“On Wednesday we go again thanks to the fans for the support
“Tomorrow I rest than Monday I train hard for Wednesday I will improve.
“Thanks for all the support.”
***Apologies, on closer inspection this turns out to be a fake Matz Sels account that has been set up in the aftermath of Matz Sels deleting his – the lengths people go to for mischief!!!
