Jonas Gutierrez is set to sign for a new club according to reports on Monday.

Italian media claim that three clubs are chasing the former Newcastle winger, with Serie A outfits Cagliari and Chievo two of them.

Interestingly, the third one is Hellas Verona, the now Serie B club who were relegated last season and who appointed Rafa Benitez’ assistant, Fabio Pecchia as their new manager in the summer.

Jonas Gutierrez of course was released by Newcastle United at the end of the 2014/15 season and was successful in a case he brought against Mike Ashley and the club, claiming he had been discriminated against whilst battling cancer.

The level of compensation to be paid by the football club is still to be announced by the tribunal.

The Newcastle cult hero was signed on a one year deal by Deportivo la Coruna and after fighting back to full fitness made 17 appearances last season. However, only five of those were in the starting eleven, with three of them in La Liga and the other two in the cup competitions.

Deportivo didn’t offer a new contract which left Jonas Gutierrez as a free agent and many Newcastle fans were wondering what had happened to the 33 year old former favourite.

Good luck to Jonas in his talks with the interested clubs and here’s hoping he gets plenty football this season.
