Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink “My players gave me effort…but Newcastle were too good”

When you have been beaten 6-0 at home what can you say…and to be fair to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink he was economical with his words.

He of course talked about putting it right in the next game but he put up his hands and stated ‘Newcastle were too good’.

Rafa Benitez had made four changes from the side that beat Derby County on Saturday but this rotation of the squad didn’t get any player off balance with the changes.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said that Newcastle made QPR ‘look a very poor side’ and when you are three down just after half-time, there really isn’t anywhere for you to go from there.

The truth of course is that QPR are a long long way from being a poor team at this level, with three wins and a draw in the opening six games, if they had won the game they’d have gone above Newcastle.

The fact they had kept three clean sheet and only conceded six goals in the first six Championship matches also show they are no mugs.

Sad to see former Newcastle player James Perch stretchered off in the early stages, the QPR boss stating that it looks like a bad knee injury – we wish him well in his recovery.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink:

“We were very poor. They were very good. They made us look a very poor side.

“We were too open, too stretched. It wasn’t us tonight and that’s not acceptable.

“My players gave me effort, they tried…but Newcastle were too good.

“We wanted to give a better display, of course we did.

“This defeat hurts us all. We are all really hurt tonight.

“I’m not going to make excuses. We couldn’t get close to them.

“I want to say sorry to the fans. We let them down tonight. We are hurting like they are.

“After a defeat like that it’s important we stick together. We have to respond now.

“We win together. We lose together. Tonight wasn’t acceptable but we have to stick together. We have to stand up as men now. And move forward.

“We have to pick ourselves up on Saturday. We have to put it right.

“It doesn’t look good for James Perch (stretchered off after 17 minutes).

“It looks like a bad knee injury but we will have to wait and see over the coming days.”
